Marine Engine Driver Grade 1 or known as MED 1, currently meets the requirements for certification as a Marine Engine Driver Grade 1 Near Coastal as defined by the National Standard for Commercial Vessels (NSCV) Part D. Certification will require achievement of the MAR40518 Certificate IV in Maritime Operations (Marine Engine Driver Grade 1 Near Coastal), qualifying sea service and completed Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) approved task book, achieve the AMSA final assessment and provide an AMSA approved first aid certificate.
This qualification is suitable for people who work in the maritime industry operating as Chief Engineer on vessels with propulsion power up to 1500 kW and Second Engineer on vessels with propulsion power up to 3000 kW in the exclusive economic zone (EEZ).
Classroom – 4 weeks Virtual Classrooms – Same as the Classroom Sessions Remote / Flexible – 12 months from enrolment date Course Structure Classroom sessions can be completed in 4 weeks, we start at 0700 hours including Saturday. We will try and accommodate everyone in the class by not moving any quicker than the group can cope with, so while we have allocated 4 weeks (24 days) it maybe completed earlier. You will be required to complete your assignments in the evening and work on Sundays to complete you course work. Remote / Flexible – If you do not wish to attend classes or you do not have the time to attend you can study remotely. When you enrol and pay your course fees you will be issued all the course material and access to training resources and trainers to assist you through this process. All students will be assessed practically which can be done at our Brisbane Campus or offsite for Corporate Clients or groups of 8 or more, provided all the resources required have been audited and approved. Online – We have an online platform for you and your trainer to compare notes and communicate. All you material will be available through your own online portal. Total number of units = 27 units 27 core units
While these do not have to be completed before you commence study they must be produced before your certificate can be issued.
There are no entry requirements for this course; however you will need to meet the AMSA requirements to convert your certificate to a licence including a certain amount of commercially logged sea time.
