This level of qualification is currently cited as meeting some of the requirements for certification as a Master 35M Near Coastal as defined by the National Standard for Commercial Vessels (NSCV) Part D.
Certification as a Master 35M Near Coastal (as defined by the NSCV Part D) will require achievement of the MAR40618 Certificate IV in Maritime Operations (Master 35M Near Coastal), certification as a Master less than 24 metres Near Coastal, an appropriate radio certificate of proficiency, AMSA final assessment and an AMSA approved first aid certificate; people seeking certification should check with the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA).
This level of qualification is also currently cited as meeting some of the requirements for certification as a Mate less than 80 metres Near Coastal as defined by the NSCV Part D.
Certification as a Mate less than 80 metres Near Coastal will require achievement of the MAR40618 Certificate IV in Maritime Operations (Master up to 35 metres Near Coastal), qualifying sea service and completed AMSA approved task book or qualifying sea service, an appropriate radio certificate of proficiency, AMSA final assessment and an AMSA approved first aid certificate; people seeking certification should check with AMSA.
Elements of Shipboard Safety: To complete the full Certificate IV in Maritime Operations (Master 35M or Mate 80M) qualification students are required to complete the Elements of Shipboard Safety units. Students who have completed Elements of Shipboard Safety in the past 5 years will not have to repeat this course, you will have to provide a copy of your certificate.
This qualification is suitable for those sailing as Master on vessels up to 35 metres in length within the exclusive economic zone (EEZ) or a Mate on vessels up to 80 metres in length.
Classroom – 5 weeks + relevant sea time
Remote / Flexible – 12 months from enrolment date
Online – 12 months from enrollment date
Classroom sessions – If you enrol in a classroom session this can be completed in a 5 week time frame, we start at 7am and work on Saturdays. Please be assured we do not move any quicker than the group can cope with, so while we have allocated 4 weeks (30 days) it may be completed sooner. You will be required to complete your assignments in the evening and work on Sundays to complete you course work.
Remote / Flexible – If you do not wish to attend classes or you do not have the time to attend you can study remotely. Enrol and pay your course fees you will be issued all the course material via an online portal. This is where you access all your resources, assignments, complete and upload for your assessor to mark and give you feedback. When necessary you will be given direct access to your trainer to assist you through this process. All students will be assessed practically which can be completed at our Brisbane Office, offsite for Corporate Clients or groups of 8 or more, provided all the resources required have been audited and approved.
Online / Virtual Classrooms – After you enrol and pay your course fees you will be issued all the course material via an online portal. This is where you access all your resources, assignments, complete and upload for your assessor to mark and get your feedback. You will need to attend the classes that have been scheduled, the same rules apply as attending a face to face class except this will be conducted via a virtual classroom and online. All students will be assessed practically which can be completed at our Brisbane Office, offsite for Corporate Clients or groups of 8 or more, provided all the resources required have been audited and approved.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
To convert this certificate to a Marine Licence you must have the required sea time as stipulated by AMSA. Please make sure you meet these requirements.
